The Best Bunnies of the Web

Posted by jefferson on Apr 8, 2012 in Site News | 16 comments

We’re just winding down after a lovely Easter spent chatting with family, eating chocolate bunnies, and hunting for plastic eggs.   We hope that you all had a great Easter as well, and hope that the rest of the country was similarly blessed with the perfect weather that we had here in the Midwest.

Earlier this week, Michelle wrote our first ever guest post for another blog.  Her article “Getting through Broke Week” was featured on the Free Financial Advisor, and talked about those times when you know you aren’t going to have any money until your next paycheck.  She talked about some good activities that you can do with the kids without spending any money, and some tips to get you through the rough patch.  The Free Financial Advisor is one of our favorite sites,  and Average Joe has a big-time financial background and shares his knowledge and experience every chance that he gets.

I wanted to also mention a shout out we got earlier this week from The Simple Dollar,  which is one of the most popular Personal Finance blogs in the world, and on my list of morning “must-reads”.  They mentioned our article “Ain’t Too Proud to Use a Big Bird Spoon“, and directed a ton of new traffic to the site.  If you found us from the Simple Dollar, I just wanted to take a minute and say “Welcome!”.
Favorite Posts From Around the Web:

  • Step Away From the Mall posted “Getting priorities straight… one stupid decision at a time“ , talking about the strange new trend where people choose to make their car payments and credit card payments *instead* of their mortgage payments, when times get tough.  Very strange indeed.  Keeping a roof over the heads of my babies has always been priority #1.
  • There have been a ton of posts about Roth IRAs the past few weeks, but my favorite of all of them was Work Save Live’s “My Not-So-Secret Love Affair. Why the Roth IRA Makes My Heart Skip a Beat.”  This is pretty much a Roth IRA 101 class, all in a single post, and he really spells it out in easy to understand terms.
  • Tackling Our Debt’s post on “Where to Find Work From Home Jobs“, was full of useful information.  We are always exploring ways to generate some side-hustle-cash, and appreciate the quality links!
  • When Life Gives You Lemons posted “Taking Care of Clothes“, with some great tips about how to make the clothes you do have last longer.  Considering the adventures we have had recently with clothes, we need to pay attention.
  • Cult of Money, always the master of analogies, wrote a post called “Spring Training For Your Money“, where he talked about finance in baseball terminology.  I told him that we were out of spring training now, and have entered the regular season.
  • Money Infant, finally posted a detailed version of his Bangkok Budget,  discussing in detail what it costs to live in one of the most exciting cities in the world.  It is fascinating to compare and contrast how very different things cost here and there.

Carnival Inclusions:

  • “Debt Dieting” was included in the Carnival of Money Pros @ Financially Consumed.
  • “Aint Too Proud To Use a Big Bird Spoon” was included in Carnival of Personal Finance @ Canajun Finances.
  • “Goalmine” was included in the Festival of Frugality @ Dewey’s Tree House.
  • “How to be an Office Rock Star” was included in the Totally Money Carnival @ Thirty Six Months.
  • “Resume Redo” was included in the Kings of Cash Flow Carnival @ MoneyInfant.
  • “Groceries: My Biggest Splurge” was in the Yakezie Carnival @ Passive Income to Retire.
  • “7 Ways to Pass the Time @ Soccer Practice” was in the Carnival of Camarderie @ Step Away From the Mall.

Ha! I don’t know about “big time” financial background, but I can talk NASCAR and board games with the best of them. Are those good credentials?

Thanks again for helping me last week. It feels good to be back after an awesome week catching up with family. Your piece was great, and not just good tips for “broke week”, but for every week.

I was super excited about the TSD mention, because Trent is really a trailblazer with what all of us here in the PF blog world are trying to do.

My Easter weekend was quite nice. Congratulations to Michelle for writing her (and your) very first guest post. The subject of the post seems pretty interesting, and I’ll find time to check it out.

You’ve compiled a great list of blog posts. Some of them, I’ve read. As for the rest of them I will take a look at them when i find the time.

Also, allow me give you a big shout out for being mentioned in The Simple Dollar and all of the blog carnivals.

Thanks, Anthony. We’ll be sure to include you the next time we do a round-up. We’re trying to do them every 2 weeks, instead of every week, to keep the blog focused on as much content as possible.

Congratulations on the simple dollar shout out! Very cool. And thanks for the shout out! And nice work on the guest post. Feel free to send one over to SAFTM if you want to post one there, too.

I’ll be buying some discount candy this week in preparation for Greaster (Greek Easter). Hope everyone had a great Easter though.

Greaster, eh?. I’ve never heard of it.
I thought about loading up on some discount candy yesterday, but my kids are already set for a while, and my wasteline doesn’t need it :-)

We will take you up on that guest post offer, but probably not for a couple of weeks.
