Holiday Cheer and Site Updates

Posted by jefferson on Dec 22, 2012 in Site News | 11 comments

We love Christmas time here at the See Debt Run household, and have been quite busy getting ready for the holidays.  The kids are off school, I have some time off of work, and Santa will be making his yearly cameo here in just a few days.  We hope that you and yours have a wonderful Christmas next week!

Site Updates:

As we continue to make progress towards our debt goals,  both Michelle and I are committed to continue to share the tips and tricks that have allowed for us to make so much progress in such a short amount of time.  Even after our debt is paid off,  we have additional financial goals that we will be working towards, and we are looking forward to sharing those stories with you!

In the meantime, the site has continued to grow and we really appreciate everyone who has taken the time to read, comment, and share our articles via social media.  Your support has been invaluable in helping to keep us on track when working towards our goals.

Also, if you haven’t heard it yet, I was featured on the Two Guys and Your Money Podcast over at the Free Financial Advisor.  We were discussing my article “The Interview Question That is Always Asked“, and I had a great time talking to Average Joe about life, jobs, and finance.

Debt Progress:

December is always a tough month for a family trying to get their finances together, and this one has been no exception.  In addition to Christmas shopping for the kids,  we had some home repair expenses that cropped up as well.  We actually had to pull from our emergency fund to keep our checking account from getting overdrawn at one point, but were able to get the fund back to the $1000 number on my next payday a few days later.

For the shopping itself, we have done about half of our shopping online, and half in traditional brick and mortar stores.  We have also bought some of our presents for the kids new, and some of them used.  All and all, we are trying to make the day extra special for our kids without wrecking our finances.  For our online shopping, we have done a lot of comparison shopping and used a lot of net voucher codes to make sure that we are getting the best price possible.

All and all, this month may represent a smaller decline in our debt total than we have seen in recent months.  That said, we were ahead of schedule because of our efforts in the past few months.  As is shown on our debt repayment graph, we are still well on our way to being debt free early next year.

Great work on the debt repayment and rebounding from the dip in the emergency fund! We also get our kids some new items and some used ones. They don’t seem to mind, even as they are getting older.

“Debt free” are such nice words and it’s good to hear you’re close to your goal of repaying all your debt. It’s so great that you share your tips on how you do that. Happy holidays to you and your family!

Very inspiring to see your debt paydown progress. We have a long, long, long road ahead of us as far as debt goes (and we only have student loans and a mortgage…but it’s a big, huge, figure).

I’m glad you will continue to post in the future!

That stinks you had to dip into the emergency fund, but I’m glad you were able to get it back in-tact!

We’re not going to have as much progress either this month but that’s because we’re going to buy a few things we’ve been wanting (which won’t be totally covered by the xmas money we received this weekend).

    Have a merry Christmas guys!
