Saving Money Shopping – a $500 giveaway!

Paying full price is sooooo two years ago.

Since we have had our heads down, working hard to eliminate credit card debt, finding ways to cut costs has become a way of life.  We try not to purchase things we don’t need, and try to get the costs down for things that we *do* need.  Saving a few dollars here and a few there, can make a big difference in your overall budget.

We have seen an amazing improvement in our grocery spending over the past year.  The biggest difference has been that we are now simply paying attention.  By clipping coupons, stocking up when prices are low, and by purchasing some items at discount stores— our overall cost is down nearly 40%.  The impact of this on our monthly finances has been huge, as it has freed up cash to payoff debt and take care of other necessities.

In today’s online world, there are an unbelievable number of tools at your disposal to comparison shop and find the best prices for everything from diapers to televisions.  Anytime we are looking to make a purchase, we do a search to see if there are any current deals on that product.  Once we lock into a retailer, we always search to see if there are any discount codes or  Free Shipping Coupons available.   If you are willing to purchase items used, you can save even more by hitting garage sales, craigslist, or an online auction site.

Along those same lines, we are proud to be part of a fantastic giveaway from our friends over at Rather-Be-Shopping.com.  They are giving away $500 to one lucky winner!  All that you have to do is to subscribe to a few blog feeds, like a few blogs on Facebook, or follow on Twitter.  The Rafflecopter Widget at the bottom of the page has everything that you need to get registered. The more that you do, the greater the chance that you will be the lucky winner.  It is entirely up to you!  Happy savings everyone!

I like your style of not paying full price. I always look for coupons when I found an item at a particular retailer. The only thing I need to work on is how my wife shops at the grocery store. She just grabs and doesn’t look at the price. When she goes shopping, it would cost us $70, when I go, I can get it to $55 or less. Same items, different purchasing behavior.

Yeah.. Adding coupons into your routine definitely helps, Grayson. Purchasing in bulk whenever you spot a sale price helps even more!

One way we’ve kept our grocery bill in check and our waste down is to plan our meals for the week. I was throwing out too many half used ingredients because I hadn’t planned for using all of it. I’d forget about it until it was no longer safe to eat. Online coupons are modern marvel too. It seems you like you can always find a coupon for everything. Sometimes the discounts are small, but they definitely add up over time.

Going to Google is the first thing I do when I find something I want to buy online. My favorites are the free shipping coupons as shipping adds so much (on a percentage basis) to the overall cost.

Thank you for sharing that opportunity with all of us! In the past few years I have begun to get great pleasure out of couponing. I know I will never be as good as those on Extreme Couponing but I hope to one day come close. I’ve begun to figure out the cycles of store specials and only buy food that is on sale, preferably buy one get one. Publix is a great place to grocery shop. Sweetbay often has BOGO deals as well but never as many and not on as many useful items.

Paying full price is so yesterday you bet but retailers also know this so all they do is put price slashes on products to make us THINK we are getting a deal when we are not. Here’s an example.. at Zehrs (grocery store) and they had Liberte Yogurt (very pricey product) with a 50% off sticker with the regular price $8.99 OMG I’ve NEVER in any shop seen it at that price. What they did was up the price so high that the customer would THINK they are getting a deal. When it sells they make the same amount they normally charge. Sure enough when we went in the next week $5.99!!! Knowing your prices are a great deal and pairing it with a coupon is even better… even online coupons.

Money has a way of disappearing if you don’t monitor it carefully- I spend so much money just on the necessities. I definitely don’t mind buying second-hand items. I frequent Ebay alot because I find really good deals there, especially when I bid on stuff.

I use NewEgg for electronics and Google Shopping for everything else. The Internet has made it so easy to comparison shop that there really is no reason to pay full price for anything anymore.
